Reasons to Eat Grass Fed

In a 2009 study* conducted by the USDA and Clemson University, grassfed beef was found to be better for human health than grainfed beef in ten ways:

1.   Lower in total fat
2.   Higher in beta-carotene
3.   Higher in vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol)
4.   Higher in the B-vitamins thiamin and riboflavin
5.   Higher in the minerals calcium, magnesium, and potassium
6.   Higher in total omega-3s
7.   Better ratio of omega-6 to 3 fatty acids (1.65 vs 4.84)
8.   Higher in CLA (cis-9 trans-11), a potential cancer fighter
9.   Higher in vaccenic acid (which can be transformed into CLA)
10. Lower in the saturated fats linked with heart disease

Grazing Management Can Help Solve Global Climate Change

Allan Savory of Holistic Management Institute and Dr Christine Jones of Carbon for Life in Australia, working independently, both concluded from their studies that if between 10% and 20% of grasslands worldwide were left a couple more inches in hight after being grazed, the net carbon gain would be enough to reduce current atmospheric CO2 levels to pre-industrial revolution levels in as little as 10 years.

That simple solution could solve global climate change!

Another greenhouse gas, Methane, is consumed by well managed pastures in far larger quantities than the animals grazing on them can emit. (This information comes from an article by Jim Gerrish in the February, 2011 issue of the Stockman Grassfarmer.)

High Protein Diet is a Benefit to Maintaining Weight Loss

A University of Copenhagen study published in the New England Journal of Medicine has confirmed the belief that diets high in lean meat and other proteins help with weight loss. This large controlled random study found that only those on the high protein diet with a low-glycemic index maintained their weight loss and fewer of these participants dropped out of the project.

The results seem to affirm about a half-dozen other sutdies that have come out since 2007 showing tha lean meat extends a feeling of satisfaction and aids weight loss. (This information comes from the December 17, 2010 issue of the Capital Press.)
